On February 19th 2025, Michael Huy Cuong Pham successfully defended his PhD thesis at Rigshospitalet. The thesis is titled:
Diseases of the Human Aorta – Risk Factors and Imaging Biomarkers
You can find the thesis and other theses from the Rigshospitalet Cardiovascular Research Unit here: https://rh-ct.org/theses/
The thesis explores the risk factors, imaging biomarkers and current status of aortic aneurysm disease in a general population cohort from the Copenhagen General Population Study.
Aortic dilatation is defined as an abnormal enlargement of the aorta. If not addressed, it can progress to an aortic aneurysm, which carries the risk of aneurysm rupture, life-threatening bleeding, and with potentially fatal outcome. This elucidates the rationale to screen for aortic aneurysms and thus multiple countries have implemented national aortic screening programs. However, cardiovascular risk profile and predictors for region-specific aortic disease remain an ongoing research question. This thesis investigated some of the aspects related to physiological determinants, cardiovascular risk factors and imaging biomarkers associated with enlarged aortic dimensions in a large general population cohort.
After the PhD defense in aortic disease the audience was served some delicious grilled aorta.
