Inten-CT at Rigshospitalet
The purpose of INTEN-CT is to investigate whether a tailored diabetes treatment for each individual will reduce cardiovascular diseases and increase quality of life.
Type 2 diabetes is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, but this risk varies greatly from person to person. Therefore, each individual also needs different treatments.
The current methods for distinguishing between individuals with high and low risk are inadequate. Unfortunately, this means that there is a risk that some receive too much medication, while others receive too little medication.
Therefore, INTEN-CT investigators wish to conduct a randomised study among 7,300 people with type 2 diabetes, who through a cardiac CT scan will have their risk for heart disease determined.
The Cardiovascular CT Research Unit at Rigshospitalet will participate in the Inten-CT project and contribute by scanning 1,500 of the participants.
This project aims to answer following:
The cardiac CT scans will take place at different hospital sites in Denmark at cardiology departments, while the medical treatment is initiated at the local internal medicine departments and continued by the general practitioners.
